7 tips to prepare your other half for your family session

February 23, 2020

Your Family Portrait Session is booked! Hooray! The next step is to prepare everyone. Your significant other might not be on board and that’s okay, most guys are not into taking pictures. I totally get it, my husband is like that!

Here are some things you can do to help your significant other feel more relax and comfortable that I’d proven with my husband and advice to my clients:

  1. Express your feelings! Your babies are not going to stay little forever, show him pictures when they were little or when you guys met, how fast the time went by… Explain how much they mean to you.
  2. Remind him that this is just a one-time thing, not something he will have to do every day.
  3. Set expectations about how the kids may behave so he can be prepared mentally, rejecting those negative feelings and project a cheerful attitude. Bribing is also an option.
  4. Tell him to embrace the craziness, have fun, bring those joyful moments. Portrait sessions shouldn’t be something to stress about.
  5. Meet with me! Let me guide you, building trust, and providing a memorable experience is my number one goal. Knowing your photographer is so essential to create a comfortable trusting environment and ease his doubts.
  6. Remind him that you love him and how grateful you are for his support.
  7. Lastly but no less critical, this one goes for you momma, RELAX! Everything will be okay, you are doing a good job! Leave the stress and the prompts to me, enjoy your family time!

I hope these tips help you during your Family Portrait Session. If you like our list or have something extra that has worked for you, leave a comment below.
